This second album from Absque Cor, where an individual named Vos holds sway, is the successor to the debut album ‘Wędrówkę haniebnie zakończyć’, which was also by chance released by Godz ov War Productions in 2017.
On ‘Na zawsze cieniem…’ the listener hears a varied form of Black Metal that ranges from dissonant, sometimes droning tones and a calm yet oppressive atmosphere, to uptempo outbursts where the essence of the present-day Polish scene isn’t far off. All of this is packaged in tracks lasting between 7 and 15 minutes, with the final track being a cover of Der Golem, a short-lived Russian band described as an experimental mix of industrial, post-punk, post-rock and drone ambient. And Vos has put his own Black Metal interpretation on it.
All in all, an album that, as far as I’m concerned, you need to be in the right mood to listen to in its entirety.
