I will admit at the outset that I was drawn to the band’s moniker. It’s different and a bit edgy, but it still evokes those interesting visuals when you see the name. Me being a graphic artist by trade, I have fun in the visual interplay that comes to my imagination and what crazy and inspired sketches I can derive from it.
Having said that, I will also admit the music itself is a mixed bag in its perception and presentation. Now I am not putting down the music in any way, but I was finding myself a tad bored after a few repeated listens. Now this could be considered more of a ‘thinking man’s Metal ’and follows the same path as, say, Pseudogod, Teitanblood, and also perhaps a bit of Grave Miasma. So with that in mind, there is nothing here that truly makes you look for the trash heap, but also there is not much for you to break out the pedestal constructed of gold either.
Sometimes in conversations with fandom and friends, I ask what the barometer or the guidelines for which you seek or buy in your Metal purchases are. Is it country, is it your friend’s band, is it just the sound in particular that you NEED to have everything and be a completist? Does hearing the sounds of some of the aforementioned bands truly get your knickers all riled up? This is what I speak of or look for when speaking to friends, my adoring public, and those of an inquisitive nature. I ask what you are expecting or looking for?
To be forthright, Kadaverreich are doing nothing new. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done before, but still there are threads you can grasp on to and perhaps think to yourself, “OK, this is pretty cool.” This is why I ask your thoughts or present myself in such a way. Because the music itself follows much the same path as the aforementioned bands, but mainman ‘Daemorph’ injects a bit of his own interpretation of the sound and perhaps offers something a bit more suffocating and also gives a nod and a wink to some ‘old school Death Metal vibes’ to add an extra dynamic to the proceedings.
The material here on their first full-length is gratifying for the most part, but are you still satisfied with a sound that may be a tad redundant? I will also say, to maybe further intrigue you, but partially because of some of the imagery, titles, and the instrumentals on this release, you will hear a bit of Nile as well. The production is a touch more modern, and the instrumentation is brighter and perhaps allows for more definition of the individual instruments. Now, some bands seek or tend to be a bit more muddy in their presentation, or create perhaps a more dismal aura, but Kadaveriech, on this point, differentiates themselves from the pack. I feel that on this matter, they (the band) can look to themselves and say they are walking their own path, and thus make for something that will help them in the long run.
So, back to my original point. To you, my devoted followers, what are you looking for? I always say know before you buy, and take the time to look into the band and see what they have to offer you. There are way too many options and reasons to spend our hard-earned money, and I hope to in some small way help you on that matter. Plus, we are all metalheads here. It’s good to support the scene as well. Be it a purchase or checking out the band live and get some merch.
