Armnatt return with their 4th full length album and their third in 3 years. It seems after years of “on again/off again” the Portuguese trio have finally hit their stride and tapped into a well of inspiration.
The album opens with silence and a sample of heavy rain, an ode to Scandinavian Black Metal if ever there was one, and a sign of what is to come. What follows is a heavy dose of Darkthrone inspired riffs, fuzzy, distorted guitars, repetitive drums and maniacal vocals lost deep in the mix. Unfortunately, It doesn’t really deviate from this formula and occasionally you do find yourself checking the tracklisting to make sure the same track isn’t on repeat. That being said, there is no denying the genuine fury behind the compositions and that makes it worth a listen at least once.
One could be mistaken into thinking ‘Immortal Nature’ had been recorded in 94 and lost among the annals of hundreds of Scandinavian Black Metal tapes, only to be rediscovered in 2022 by a leather jacket clad loner at an underground record store.
That is not to say it’s generic, rather it is what it aims to be….and that is Black Metal for the Purists and the old guard. (Mr. Nielsen)
