Having just got hold of A Felled Forest’s latest EP from 2023, ‘Requiem For A Black Heart’, which is written by Blackheart, the sole person behind this band. Right from the start, I started to enjoy this 3-song EP more than the previous ‘A Beacon Of The Old Ways’ EP, in accordance with the overall impact it has on me.
The music is more aggressive but certainly features no less despairing vocals; the guitars sound clearer, as do the drums. I am not sure if I can say the same about the bass, though.
It features interesting melodies capable of sending you on a spiritual journey to face your deepest regrets. The tempo is still mid-tempo with slight breakouts; a 19-minute runtime that will reward any fan of this kind of art.
Another positive thing is the cover layout, if you ask me… you definitely get what you see.
