In 1993, Forlorn members Daniel Bryntse and Magnus Björk, now recognized as the duo behind Isole, established the Death Metal outfit Withered Beauty. This 1994 demo, ‘Screams from the Forest’, served as their inaugural release, recorded with the assistance of Tobias Björklund.
The compositions featured on this demo were written over a four-year period, predating the very conception of Withered Beauty; the title track, for instance, dates back to 1990. This explains the stylistic disparity between the tracks, which range from Melodic Death Metal and Black Metal to Doom and Old School Death Metal. Based on this demo, it is not yet clear which direction Withered Beauty wanted to take, though you can hear moments where everything comes together, even if it doesn’t happen often enough on this debut
Notably, one track eventually appeared on their subsequent full-length debut, albeit with musical revisions and a title change: ‘Paralyzed’ was rebranded as ‘Dying Alone’.
