Torsofuck – Feasting on Carved Remains [EP]

The human brain is incredibly primitive and capable of almost unthinkable when presented with the slightest hint of danger. No matter how intelligent someone is, when they are frightened or just slightly threatened, they turn into an absolute idiot. While primitive feeling in music is desired, it is not desired in human behaviour. We’ll let people be idiots, because they absolutely excel at it and focus on the primitive in the music.

Torsofuck have been a longstanding goregrind force combining brutality with perversion and misogyny, yet it would still be unfair to just simply call them ‘porn grind’ as it would sell their music incredibly short. Porngrind is usually just non-articulated noise combined with unrealistic sexual expectations of adolescent boys in the form of a 50-something old man. While most of so called metal fans today would write this band off as being porngrind (and unlistenable as such as it’s not metal), this band actually possesses a generous amount of dark humor and intelligence. This is not as primitive as it may sound, but it definitely is brutal (all you kids describing your favorite bands as brutal… yeah, pay attention to this). Not just in the imagery, but also in the sound. Let me explain.

Most of us ‘middle of nowhere’ kids are familiar with the sound of a wood chipper. Now imagine you’re feeding that wood chipper with bones… while they are still attached to a human being. And that human being is still alive, probably trying to scream their lungs out, but their sounds are muffled by the ridiculous noise the wood chipper makes. And while the person is getting turned into dog food, you and your friends are sitting nearby with a beer, telling each other the so called ‘greasy’ jokes and laughing out loud. For a second, the wood chipper noise becomes a bit too even, so you feed it to another person. And so on. Maybe even putting a piece of the previous victim on the BBQ. Because why not?

Now turn that entire image into a record. Torsofuck always managed to build a sound which comes off as multilayered to the point of it turning into a thick concrete wall. There’s a lot going on here, even if the sources of the sounds (instruments and vocals) get separated, but combined, they become impenetrable. And you know how these brutal Death Metal / Goregrind vocals usually sound like someone is vomiting their entrails out? That’s probably the sound the person in the wood chipper makes, as the vocals here sound like the person who is feeding another person into a wood chipper. So that sizzle you might hear somewhere during the just over 13 minutes of this record? Those are your ears on the BBQ. Delightful.
