Sporae Autem Yuggoth – However It Still Moves

sporae autem yuggoth – however it still moves

A debut album from Chile, brought to you this coming May by Personal Records on CD. Feast your senses on a brand new wave of sinister, brooding Death/Doom from Sporae Autem Yuggoth, a new Santiago based band whose debut album ‘However It Still Moves’ and its slow, ominous tones will make your flesh crawl!

Anguished, roaring vocal work sets the tone as this opus of darkness and morbidity starts slowly before digging in its heels to truly grind out a savage and glacial pace! Eerie synth work in the background casts a harmonic spell that enriches the grim toned riffs and precise drum tones, whilst wandering guitar rhythms seep forward cautiously into the twilight to feast upon the minds of its listeners.

Most of the tracks on offer are lengthy affairs and so there is room for progression and variance within each entity. This is something that Sporae Autem Yuggoth do explore and so don’t be surprised to be subjected to grinding pace changes, usually brought about by a surge in powerful drum tones and grinding riffs, whilst the ever present synth accompaniment continues unabated to temper the ferocity and keep an ongoing haunting tint to the album.

Some Death/Doom focusses on being as crushing as possible, but Sporae Autem Yuggoth have a different modus operandi! Whilst the vocals, riffs and drums are heavy, the focus appears to be on creating more of an atmosphere that is haunting, dark and a little spectral. My experience of this album isn’t that of a blood pumping Death/Doom thriller, where barbaric riffs pound away to the accompaniment of monolithic drum tones and feverish bass. In fact on this album the bass doesn’t really factor as much as it could, and the focus on melody and atmosphere does rob the album of some of its impact. Never the less, this is a listenable debut, though a little draggy in places.
