Crypts – Necropolis [EP]

crypts – necropolis [ep]

Info

Just a short time ago I reviewed Crypts debut full-length album, ‘Coven of the Dead’, and absolutely fucking loved it. I honestly think that I love it more now after even more times in my ears and soul. Hell, I even told you not to miss out on it. But I digress. Now, I have been given the great honor of revisiting the Crypts and have the chance to review the brand new, for this year (2023), EP, the stunningly killer ‘Necropolis’.

‘Necropolis’ is a four track, eighteen minutes tour through a desolate, crumbling, creepy as fuck cemetery. Where the ghosts of days long past rise anew to haunt and slay with furious fever.

There has been no major progression to the already fantastic main core of the Crypts’ sound here but there is most definitely some things added here and there. With some more sinister touches of Black-ness here and there to punctuate the proper feel of the section. Along with a little more Tech-itute that you would find on early Death. And on top of all of that there also just so happens to be an uptick in the overall songwriting and player ability of the band as a whole, both of which are most definitely noticeable throughout the whole proceedings. Don’t get me wrong, they could always play and wrote killer fucking songs but the quality of both is just that much better on ‘Necropolis’.

Crypts as a band are a prime example of my claim that we are living in a new Golden Age Death Metal. And with ‘Necropolis’ they have absolutely stepped themselves up into the upper echelon of the Old School Death Metal tiers to the point of transcending the subgenre sect and up into the higher levels of Death Metal in general. It’s fucking fantastic, seriously really fucking good. Go, get it! Now!

P.S. If you have been paying attention to my reviews, you know that I am a sucker for some amazing album cover art, which has gotten me in trouble back in the days before the ol’ interwebs. But thankfully this outstanding piece by Sebastian Jerke is accompanying another outstanding piece of art of which it adorns. That art fits the music and vice versa, both of which are abso-fucking-lutly outstanding.
