“Necro Sapiens” is the 3rd offering from Denmark’s Baest, picking up where 2019’s “Venenum” left off. These boys are not fucking about. Baest are all about the riffs, and there are plenty on here. Every song has riffs that make you feel as if you’ve just been smashed over the head with a ball peen hammer. Taking inspiration from old school death metal such as Morbid Angel and Bolt Thrower but also bringing in more “current” influence like Bloodbath. Melodic passages in the vein of Death are coming out the arse too!! Done proper though. Can’t Complain at that cos it’s not easy.
Serious drum work takes this takes this shit to another level. Track like the slower “Abattoir”, along with the blast beat frenzied “Meathook Massacre” will make any drummer worth their salt stop and take heed.
Lyrically Beast aren’t taking themselves too seriously, which is a good thing, since it adds a fun element to the seriousness of the music. Titles such as “Sea of Vomit” are proof of this. It’s a banger too by the way.
Any band that has a grasp of technicality, hook laden riff and putrid vocal/lyrics as well as the production values to stand up to the “bigger” bands in metal gets me interested. This is top drawer “Death Metal” from Scandinavia again! Must be something in the water over there! (Skye_Dogg)
