Info

Suttungr is a promising Black Metal band from Kerkrade, Limburg (NL), formed in 2017 after evolving out of the Death/Grind act Paramite. The members are seasoned musicians with roots in the Limburg underground scene, including connections to Cirith Gorgor, Chain of Dogs, and Serpent Steel.

At the center of the musical themes/inspiration stands the legendary leader of the Eburones, Ambiorix, who entered the history books as the man who dared to defy the Roman occupiers and Julius Caesar. Ambiorix is even remembered in Belgium. As a matter of fact, Ambiorix became a Belgian national hero because of his resistance against Julius Caesar, as written in Caesar’s ‘Commentarii de Bello Gallico’.

‘Eburoons Vuur’ is full of chaotic, aggressive riffing, penetrating Scandinavian‑style melodies, brutal drumming and harsh Dutch‑language vocals reminiscent of Pest (Gorgoroth) or Hoest (Taake). Musically it can compared to second wave Scandinavian Black Metal without just being a mere copy. Think old Satyricon, Immortal and even Horna although many other bands can be cited. Vocalst Eldr has a grim feral voice that is multi-layered and he roars with conviction.

There’s a lot of variation in the barrage of savage guitars. The rhythm section is impeccable and versatile, providing a solid back bone.

Zwaertgevegt made a wise decision by signing them to this roster. ‘Eburoons Vuur’ is a very solid debut of Suttungr and can easily be regarded as one of the most aggressive and brutal Dutch Black Metal releases in years. It’s time to raise the battle axe once more.

Convince yourself and have a listen to this amazing album. The CD version of the album can be obtained from the band, by the way.
