A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

There isn’t much information available about Sapped other than they hail from Spain and they play Black Metal. I can tell you though that their debut demo offering entitled ‘Deus Causticus’ blends a punchy, simple and catchy style with a far more intricately melodic sound that makes full use of the guitar to weave an expansive and dark tapestry. For proof of that though, there is opening track ‘Crestfallen’; a rapidly endearing song that builds a firm foundation of rhythmically satisfying bass tones with a snappy drum sound and barked orthodox vocals, and marries that up to the guitar performance which is equally simplistic and flamboyant depending on what the situation calls for. At its heart this is a very traditional sounding Black Metal release, with the vocals drawing you into the demo like an evil hypnotist. I still come back to the guitars though every time I listen to this demo; I really dig the myriad of melodies that flow through the release and the songcraft is very refreshing. It will be interesting to see if this compelling slice of Black Metal from the Iberian peninsula gets picked up for a physical release.
