Wolflust – Endless War [EP]

wolflust – endless war [ep]

Info

The Brazilians of Wolflust have come out with their second EP, ‘Endless War’, which, with some 16 minutes of material, presents us with a modest bite of unbridled Black/Death Metal, in, yes, Brazilian tradition.

Although… Those 16 minutes can actually only be called relative too. Besides an intro with some panting sounds that should probably hint at werewolves or something, but which in reality is a pitch shifter. Of the remaining five tracks, only two of them are Wolflust originals. The remaining three are covers of Sarcófago, WAR and Sodom, respectively. While one might question whether it makes a lot of sense to fill 2/3rds of an EP with covers and an intro, the choice of covered bands does give a clear picture of what Wolflust stands for, musically. As far as the band name and title of this EP hadn’t already given that away, of course.

Musically, you could indeed paint them right in the middle of Sarcófago, WAR and Sodom, subsequently resulting in something that relates well to what Angelcorpse sounded like on their first two albums: terrifyingly fierce, hard and violent. They are dodging blast beats, right, left and center; this is pre-eminently the kind of music where the guitars play a slightly less dominant role and the overwhelming violence comes mainly from the drums and the barking vocals. Especially the second original song, ‘Unmerciful Shattered Dawn’ sounds so much like Angelcorpse that I checked whether this wasn’t after all a cover by the Americans under the inspiring direction of Pete Helmkamp. Turns out it really wasn’t, which makes this probably the best compliment you can give Wolflust.
