A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

After releasing their debut album “Votov” and the EP “Blessphemy”, Votov from Canada is ready to release their new and second album “I.X.X.I.”. Votov is playing a kind of Death Metal I’ve heard many times throughout the years in the 90s, but seems to be a bit of revival nowadays; straightforward Death Metal with a low growl and chopping riffs.

Every country had a couple of Death Metal bands like that in the days, with a more mid-tempo attitude and dark groove and up-tempo aggressiveness when needed. Never exciting, never disappointing. And although Votov has some short progressive excesses like during “Head over Hooves”, the Death Metal part is far more present on “I.X.X.I.”.

At the end this will not stand out if you ask me, therefore new OSDM acts, be it Pyre, Slaughterday, Cryptic Hatred, Leprophiliac, Carnal Ruin and so on, have raised the bar throughout the years. (Ricardo)
