A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

In Austria we have Karg, Harakiri for the Sky, Anomalie, Ellende etc. and what about our neighbours in Germany? They have Thormesis and they should be very proud about them. Thormesis is a post Black Metal band from Bavaria and, how could it be any different, “The Sixth” is their sixth full length album.

It is very refreshing that Thormesis use a lot of Pagan and Black gaze elements in their songs. Their approach to the song-writing sometimes reminds me of bands like Moonsorrow, Ulver or Taake. Each song of “The Sixth” builds up clearly defined and  awesome harmonies lead to an epic finale. Smooth and softer parts create a pleasant tension, just to pass over in a gruesome riff attack to complete a perfect picture of melancholy and dreamy soundscapes, all refined with a mystical touch.

Thormesis work perfectly together as a unit, it‘s audible through the whole record and everything meshes perfectly. The haunting and clean vocals are emotional and aggressive at the same time and some lyric passages are so intense that you will get goosebumps. The production is modern but yet not sterile. When there is enough room for every instrument you can hear every little and fine detail of the music.

Thormesis will crawl under your skin, a real listening pleasure. (HaCeBo)
