A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

From Indonesia comes this new Black/Thrash Metal band Svraoz and with ‘Sacraments Of Evil’ they do present their first recordings, a 7-track EP, clocking in at just under 20 minutes. Since we do love to check out new bands from all around the globe and within every extreme metal’s sub-genre, that was enough for me to dive into the world of Svraoz.

What this EP brings is a Heavy Metal-based sort of Black/Thrash Metal that has clear similarities to those very early Destruction recordings. And although there is a bit of Sodom to be discerned as well, it is predominantly Destruction that comes to mind when listening to ‘Sacraments Of Evil’. It has the same sort of wacky guitar sound and rather thin production, but it also bears an obvious difference to those early and quite legendary German recordings: the guys in Svraoz are much, and I say MUCH, more talented when it comes to the way they handle their instruments. Especially the guitarist knows his craft, his leads and guitar solos are light years removed from the ones of your average Black/Thrash Metal band, let alone of those embryonical trials of Destruction from the early 80’s. While I have no doubt that the band is satisfied with the result, I think there is quite a bit more to come. In any case, this EP is a fine first start and we keep looking forward to listening to the follow-up to ‘Sacraments Of Evil’ as well.
