Info

It is quite possible that the name Mergelland doesn’t ring a bell for most of you, but this one-man project was the predecessor of Wurgilnõ, a name that received more notice in the last 2 years with two full-lengths via Fetzner Death Records.

Black Metal act Mergelland, with Consanguineus behind the instruments and microphone, released an EP called ‘Verloren in de groeve’ back in 2020, and these 4 tracks were originally intended for a full-length album called ‘Lichtenberg’ but that album never got released. Musically, you will hear Second Wave Black Metal with a more professional rehearsal sound, but you can expect some microphone feedback nevertheless.

The vocals are only a bit harsher and slightly more distorted compared to Wurgilnõ, but that is not a jailbreaker in any way. The riffs on ‘Door de koude geteisterd’ have a more Heavy Metal approach than ‘De grafheuvel’ and ‘Ingewanden uit de pens’, which have a more mid-tempo repetitive attitude.

A solid EP to conclude the works of Mergelland and mark the beginning of the focus on the journey called Wurgilnõ. The tapes are limited, so act fast if you are interested to expand your collection…
