Normally we at VM-Underground don’t do compilation albums but this one’s a tribute to the late David Parland. For those who don’t know, David Henning Parland was a musician in the Swedish band Necrophobic and the driving force with Lord Ahriman that started Dark Funeral. He was also close to being a member of Marduk, but this did not materialize. He had his own bands Infernal and Blackmoon and was active in War, a side-project formed by members of Abruptum, Ophthalamia, Dark Funeral and Hypocrisy.
Moreover, he owned and operated Hellspawn Records: the first label that released among others Von on CD.
Quite a prolific and influential musician until his untimely demise in 2013.
A Fine Day To Die Records took it upon itself to re-release not only the 3 Infernal EP releases but also the rare Blackmoon demo from 1994 and a shredding Kreator cover as bonus. All the material has been meticulously remastered so everything sounds fresh and crispy as a newly dug tomb (sic). And it’s amazing how good it sounds after all this time!
Some say that a tribute to Parland was long overdue; A Fine Day To Die Records fills that void. For the material of Dark Funeral & Necrophobic one has to listen to their releases though.
A worthy initiative and did I mention the top-notch artwork and extensive liner notes of the CD? All done with the greatest care. Those who are interested in a piece of nostalgia from a great artist/musician should secure their copy!
