Where others are keeping their productivity on a low level, Erstwhile created 2 full-lengths in 2002 and 3 EPs in 2023, of which ‘Sorrow Swales’ is the second one. The first one, ‘Steeling of a Soul’, was described as “mid paced Black Metal” and “melancholic” here on VM-Underground.
On ‘Sorrow Swales’ they kept on using this formula which results in two raw tracks with sorrowful and repetitive melodies. The title track is the most raw one, while second track ‘The First of Two Deaths’ has a nice melancholic vibe throughout the song.
Definitely worth checking out if melancholic Black Metal is your thing.
