Die Hard – Evil Always Return [EP]

die hard – evil always return [ep]

Info

Hellhammer, Possessed and Venom are the Thrash oldies that the darker side of metal is attracted to. Their influence is obvious just by taking a gander at track titles like ‘Black Metal’, ‘Countess Bathory’, ‘Satanic Rites’, ‘Euronymous’, ‘Pentagram’, and ‘Death Metal’. Many bands now are contributing to keeping the flame burning for these Thrash legends and Sweden’s Die Hard is one of them. With the drummer from the antichrist impassioned Watain included in the line-up, Die Hard probably caught the eye of many black metal fans, but their sound is a Thrash/Death double threat. The music falls somewhere in between the two as the intensity and spirit of old school Thrash and old school Death both pour through the speakers.

On ‘Evil Always Return’, malevolent Thrash suddenly attacks, then the vocals kick in and the music drops by a few miles. The speed goes down to a slower, but no less intense pace and the Death Metal half shows its gnarled, dripping-with-blood head. Shuttering the sound barrier, high-pitched Thrash vocals accompany the growls to scream about Satan, Death, Death and Satan. This pattern continues on throughout, but doesn’t get boring. ‘Emissaries of the Reaper’ goes down the Death Metal road a bit further, but as evil always returns, ‘The Weak Lead the Blind’ takes you back to the apocalyptic azeotrope of Death/Thrash. With music and production like this, it’s hard to believe Die Hard formed in 2005 and not about twenty years before that. Maybe in another twenty years, bands called Emissaries of the Reaper and Necromantic Action will pop up with covers of ‘Evil Always Return’ and ‘Beneath Pain and Death’ will appear on their album entitled, ‘Black Mass’, after their debut, ‘The Weak Lead the Blind’.

The virulence of ‘Evil Always Return’ is formulated for utmost, necrophilic headbanging. Any fans of old school extreme metal, be it Death or Thrash should check this band out. Die Hard plays it true and plays it evil so none should be left unimpressed. Die Hard said it best, ‘Satan’s war machine is here!’
