Demoncy – Diabolica Blasphemiae [EP]

demoncy – diabolica blasphemiae [ep]

Info

Hot on the heals off the band’s sixth full length album, Demoncy also releases this new 12” EP (also released on cassette tape and CD) through Hells Headbangers Records. Although the band has always been known for releasing their stuff at unexpected moments and they before released two albums in one year (their debut and second full-lengths in 1999), it is still a surprise to have both a new album and EP being released within a timespan of two weeks after what seemed to be some sort of almost eight year hiatus. But for those who crave for old styled Black Metal there is nothing to complain about as ‘Diabolica Blasphemiae’ just offers another 20+ minutes of regressive and Beheritian Black Metal.

Just like the simultaneously released ‘Black Star Gnosis’ album (Dark Descent Records) this new EP offers Demoncy with their trademark musical DNA that borders to the classic Beherit material. Yet, compared to the previously released albums the production is a little heavier without sacrificing on its rough edge all too much. Still, just like on the accompanying album, ‘Diabolica Blasphemiae’ sound a tiny bit more accessible and as far as I can judge, both releases were recorded in the same session.

The most striking thing when listening to Demoncy anno 2023 is the realisation of the band’s persistency. The band was founded all the way back at the late 80’s and to this day never succumbed to any trends or other musical adventurism. The pure and regressive nature of what the band has to offer musically sounds as authentic as its comes. That alone is worth the praise, Demoncy is a band that not only deserves to be respected but also to be treasured, such bands are becoming scarce.
