Info

I don’t think that the Japanese doom/death beasts Coffins need any special introduction. Formed in the distant 1996 they have four full-length albums and a great number of split records with different bands. “Perpetual Darkness” is a compilation that contains tracks from different old releases of Coffins – the “Colossal Hole” EP,the splits with Noothfrush,Hooded Menance,Stormcrow,Warhammer…as well as several live recordings from Japan and the Czech Republic. So this is what Coffins does best – crushingly heavy and dark doom/death metal. The sound quality of the songs varies a lot because they present different stages in the band’s development but despite that the dirty and raw energy of the music is always present. “The Fog of Burning Flesh” (from the split with Stormcrow),the opening track “Hellbringer” (from the “Colossal Hole” EP) and “Reborn” (from the “Reborn” flexi) are probably my personal favourites from this release but all the other pieces of musical brutality are worth listening. If you need some brutal and devastating doom/death metal in your life then Coffins and this compilation in particular are one god start.
