Info

Blight Psalm is a newly emerged Black Metal project from Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, active since 2025. Blight Psalm includes members from other underground Spanish acts, notably: Rotten Cavern and Siegehammer.

Lyrics and music lean heavily into the ritualistic and grotesque imagery, like death worship, decays of flesh,… Their first EP ‘Veneration of Filthbone Grace’ was unveiled in May 2025 and it contains 5 tracks.

This isn’t mainly blastbeat Black Metal with feral vocals – it’s cavernous riff-based doom-ish black/death metal with plenty of tempo changes, mid paced sections, the muffled growled vocals are mixed to the rear of the soundscape- the music is serious heavy in texture. I clearly hear some Mayhem chords in their music, but also Possessed.

Made out of Siegehammer & Rotten Cavern members – influences from the Black/Death Metal scene can indeed be heard throughout the music, although Blight Psalm add way more elements from Funeral Doom Metal (Evoken) to even some sludge to their compositions-as can be heard on the track ‘Veneration of Filthbone Grace’ which emphasizes the bleak morbid atmosphere even more. The droning of the bass and layers guitars is unbelievable on this EP. The atmosphere remains sickening, solemn and dark no matter if the music goes fast or slow- it’s eerie raw down tuned and sick music that evokes midnight strolls on old cemeteries, dreary ghost towns, orgies with the dead, …

Pitch black music for sick puppies … Drama and theatrical elements aplenty on the ‘Veneration of Filthbone Grace’ EP.

All in all a very good debut of more traditional Black Metal with gory Death/Doom influences and a lot of depth in its music – fans of Profaner Records and their amazing releases must check out this Blight Psalm.
