What’s the connection between the year 1789 and a French Black Metal act?

Well, 1789 was the year of the French Revolution, the storming of Bastille, the famous prison in Paris, by the French people because the established order of nobility and the French King had all the power back then…and several more reasons like the price of bread was sky high because of crop failure. The revolution took 10 years in which the guillotine was a fine tool to use to get rid of opponents. An interesting read for those who enjoy history and the consequences of it.

That being said, 1789 wrapped their history lesson with 90s Symphonic Black Metal with a Norwegian touch, although the occasional bleakness of the guitars when there is no keys present, has a French rawness in it, like Peste Noire has. The debut EP is not something that will pop up in a top 5 list of recommendations when asked about French Black Metal, but it is a pleasant listen nevertheless.
