Unless you’re a newcomer to Black Metal or have been living under a rock for the past thirty plus years, then Arckanum is a name that should ring familiar. The band was created in 1992 and solely led by Shamaatae and have released a plethora of full lengths and EPs since then.
The ‘Motestandarin’ EP consists of two songs that will be on the band’s upcoming full-length release titled ‘Beswærilsin’ and is just a small taste of what to expect. It is a rather potent dose (albeit compact) of dark and old-school Swedish Black Metal that signals a rebirth for the project. The hypnotic tremolo riffs that have been made infamous in previous Arckanum releases are very much present with a somewhat stripped-down atmosphere.
‘Motestandarin’ serves its purpose and then some, thus proving that Shamaatae’s hiatus did not place a damper on his ability to craft the finest of cosmic occult Black Metal.
