Sometimes a book can be judged by its cover, and sometimes an album as well. Vider’s debut belongs to this category with the nail-spiked cross turned upside down on the cover. This directs to War Metal, or bestial Black Metal.

So, what does the album from January 2025 sound like? Imagine if Mortician did War Metal. Straightforward, without any interest in melodies or structures and the usual heavily distorted guitar. According to the artist, most of the music is improvised, which explains the somewhat chaotic songs.

It may sound strange, but just like certain Black Metal tracks, this kind of music shows an atmosphere or mood, instead of riffs and hooks and catchiness. The album has little recognizability, even for this kind of Extreme Metal, which might be considered as negative. Although simplicity is considered as something positive in this genre, a little bit of variety would make this more enjoyable.

Is this a must-have for War or Bestial Black Metal fanatics? No, and it was probably never intended to be one. Is it all middle finger in the face of traditional song writing and commercial music? Yes!
