A band that has already generated a lot of buzzin some Metal circles, is Hexenshade from Argentina. It is a total Bathory worship band, featuring one Woryon, an 18-year-old musician handling all duties.
The album is full of Bathory-like tunes, primarily inspired from the first two albums, and its design (artwork, titles,…) seems like a dead ringer for the original Bathory works in its early days. Further than this, there isn’t exactly much to find on the internet about Hexenshade…
What do you think of song titles like ‘Storm of Darkness (Intro)’ and ‘Tormentor’? Or ‘Death Lust’ and ‘Winds of Death’? Vocal-wise, Woryon doesn’t even come close to the venomous vocal lines of the late Quorthon although he does his utmost in his way. But structurally, it’s vintage Bathory all the way.
What the ‘The Revelation of Doom’ album also doesn’t offer are truly fast songs. The music is played at a high speed, but Woryon hasn’t yet achieved the blast beat versions of some Bathory songs, or he simply ignores them. He’s still young, though, so who knows what time will bring.
You’ll be swayed by the authenticity of the tracks and marvel at the result.
An intro, an outro, and nine tracks yield 38 minutes of nostalgic Black Metal. Is it a tribute to one of the greatest and influential bands of all time, or is it simply profit-seeking and a successful teenage prank? I don’t know the answer, but in the meantime, I’m listening to the music and I am enjoying it. The Dutch Wolfkult Religion label took it upon him to issue a limited edition cassette.
