Two years after the ‘Espectro de la noche sobre este frio ataúd’ demo, Lord Maleficarum recorded his debut album, released on cassette only. Although I mentioned Lord Necare in the review of the demo, Mortiis Tenebrae qualifies itself as a one-man Black Metal project.

On ‘Bajo la niebla mortuoria del etherio nocturno’ Lord Maleficarum shifted this entity more towards a darker and melancholic sounding act compared with the demo. Although melancholic riffs were present on the demo, the overall atmosphere on the debut is more melancholic, with tracks above 7 minutes to emphasize this.

Although I enjoyed the Old School spirit of the demo, I think Lord Maleficarium and his Mortiis Tenebrae entered the right dark path by tweaking the approach and sound on this one. Depressing without being “Depressive Black Metal”. ‘Bajo la niebla mortuoria del etherio nocturno.’ is absolutely a decent album.
