A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Germany’s Helsang is the brainchild of an individual called Schattenwesen, who is or was also involved in an another Vama Marga Productions acts like Draugrhanaz and the now defunct Blodsvart.

Black Metal is the dish served and the German cuisine is quite tasty, although don’t expect a Michelin star here. But still…tasty!

The atmosphere on ‘Helheim: Der Weg in die Ewigkeit’ is nocturnal and cold, enhanced by the use of keys at the background, and the riffs are repetitive and hypnotizing, yet there is room for dark melodies. The track ‘Der Nornen Schicksalspfad’ is a good example of the aforementioned. With the addition of the German lyrics, which brings some sharpness in the gloom, it all comes together and shows some decent musicianship.

Helsang’s “Helheim: Der Weg in die Ewigkeit” is a solid effort that delivers a consistent atmosphere. While it might not break new ground in the genre, it’s worth checking out for fans of (German) Black Metal.
