A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Young Arizona based Death Metal band Misanthropic are interesting for two reasons. Firstly, their name fits in superbly with their sound, and secondly, two bassists! (Nice, although one of them has now reverted to guitar, the amazingly named Blue Martinez) Their new EP entitled ‘Malicious Procession Of Rotted Flesh’ follows on from last years ‘Wrath’ EP with four tracks of snarling, gloomy extremity that chug, grind, roar and crawl in all the right places.

A short intro makes way for a well styled song entitled ‘Suspended in Rigor Mortis’, replete with some crushing moments of head banging fury, gruelling bass leads and rumbling, ferocious drum tones, biting riffs and monstrously growled vocal work. ‘Clawing Through the Crypt’ is a flowing track but one with a steely, non-nonsense attitude, as well as a sound that showcases the bands guitar leads a little more. Closer ‘Ritualist Retribution’ is the most groove laden track of the EP, featuring a slower pace and lots of brooding rhythm.

It’s always great to see a young, up and coming band make an impression, and Misanthropic do just that with their ‘Malicious Procession Of Rotted Flesh’ EP. (Marksson)
