Info

Lovecraftian madness once again to be spread under the name of a Canadian band called Necronomicon. Active since 1988, Necronomicon are sure one of the long lasting acts in Death Metal and delivering constantly good material, but mostly been forgotten by a greater audience.

“Unus” is their 7th album and the first with a new line-up. The production has modern standards once again, with the drum pounding all the way through your ears. You can hear every single stroke perfectly…I still prefer a more “natural“ sounding one, but it`s a matter of taste. “Unus” has, like almost every Necronomicon album, all the ingredients that makes an extreme metal record pleasing. Variation in speed and themes, catchy parts, evil atmosphere and a sort of overearthly feeling. Necronomicon succeeded with combining Black Metal elements into their brand of Death Metal. You can often hear an Immortal/Dimmu Borgir vibe without sounding like the bands, incorporating some elements good into their sound.

The real standout or classic moment is still missing but overall it`s a good album once again and hopefully a step further for the band that overall is underrated in my opinion. (DPF)
