Vincent Van Gogh once remarked,”For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream…” I often believe that when the soul looks outwards, even within oneself, we may uncover that expansive world that is unknown to the human eyes, but can only be entered by the naked spirit. A world where the stars are felt and the dream can be transmitted into sound…into pure art, and it is this submitting of oneself into this lake of stars that the mind becomes imbued with such inspiration that it seeks to wander, explore…create.
‘Tomb of the Lunar Oracle’ by Lazer Throne can be discerned as a transmission decoded from the energies of Atmospheric Black Metal, and from its spirit what is returned is an otherworldly message, for when consumed by the soul, an immersive experience is unfolded. Resonating in a similar vibrational spectrum with others such as Darkspace, Midnight Odyssey and Mesarthim, Lazer throne injects their own DNA of astral emanation into this grandiose sea of sound.
Therein lies a certain emotion within this album, as though it takes the aspect of a soul wandering the planes of the cosmos searching for something profound…searching inwards. This sentiment is in turn transmuted into that of sound, whereby the path that is trodden on is now the very notes expelled from the strings, and every step that vibrates becomes the percussion that reverberates. ‘Her Jeweled Skull Shines No More’ is a track which showcases the unification of these elements, for the motion of the guitars takes a rather flowing form, like a river cutting through the bank, unhindered, so too does the strings evoke as it carves through the atmosphere in a frigid candor. The percussions are less a bombardment but more of a complement here, as they add a nuance to the guitars, as though they are one and the same energies transmitted from the same being, their pulsation may differ but they flow into each other seamlessly.
If a picture should be painted to evoke the desolate and cold feelings of the soul, then the void should speak through the hands that create such a piece, dictating the colours, the sway and the heaviness of the brush. In this same manner, the production coupled with the electronic components on the album carves this atmosphere, for it is the very temperature that allows these musical constructs to exist and breathe, like the frost that gnaws upon the marrow of the senses. ‘Her Tomb, A Vessel to The Stars’, is a track which exemplifies the harmonious elements wherein the production and the electronic undertones coexist, crafting this citadel of cosmic sound, however it is the vocals which fills this transmission. The cadence for which the vox adopts lends itself to a quality that buries itself beneath the vocals seeping and crawling, and like a mist, it surrounds and coats the instrumental architecture in an apparitional fashion yet ethereal in its essence.
Lazer Throne calls upon the ebony lake of the skies, and from its energy of sound, a blade is fashion, one that is decorated with the celestial glory of the cosmos, for what is created is weapon for the soul to wield, forged in empyreal glory. For when the mind is infused with such an entity, what remains is a journey to behold, an experience that is etched in the vastness of this astral womb.
