Death Attack – Death Attack [Demo / Re-Release]

death attack – death attack [demo / re-release]

Info

This is a band that is dead for about a good twenty years now, but still is something that is worth digging up if you’re into old school metal. This is surely an obscure underground band that hardly anyone knows or recall. Back in the days, this was the first extreme band from the the Wolfsburg-era in Germany, ignited after the attack of bands like Sodom, Kreator, Slayer and Exodus. It is not very shocking that this band doesn’t sound original at all, but it still has great historical value as this band featured musicians that were active in or would end up getting into various bands in the German heavy metal/thrash metal scene like Steeltower/Heavens Gate and, most notably, Protector.

The recordings on this 7” EP come from a rehearsal tape that was recorded somewhere back in 1985, it is needles to say that the recordings aren’t really professional or whatsoever, in fact, they actually sound rather poor. But, therefore it has something that only few of today’s bands will be able to relate to, it recalls the days of tape trading, demo-collecting; nostalgia in its purest form. Out of pure historical value, this 7” EP should be considered a gem as this is one of the earliest extreme metal bands that sprung out of the German scene which was about to explode into countless bands playing this style. And though Death Attack (how easy was it to find a band name at the time, before you had to come up with seven-word-bandnames?) sounds very much alike Whiplash on their debut “Power And Pain”-album, it still is as enjoyable as going through your old demo tapes on a rainy Sunday, really.

I’m really a great fan of releases like this, not only because of my almost fetish-like adoration of old school 80’s metal, but also because of the high-quality lay-out that I Hate Records presents. This 7” EP comes as a picture disc, complete with thick and shiny cover and with liner-notes about the bands history, old photographs and a nice old school layout. Value for money for those who consider themselves defenders of the faith. For collectors’ information: this 7” EP is limited to 500 copies only!
