A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Cancerlumia, a new contender for the rusty Black Metal crown in Colombia have been in existence since 2015 and have only recenty released their anticipated debut, the ‘Forgotten’ EP through the Colombian War March records’ label.

On this recording, the band consists of 4 musicians and of Astarte, the female vocalist, who has been the driving force behind the band since its inception.

‘Forgotten’ contains 6 tracks with an intro and an outro.  Lyricwise and regarding musical topics, the band is said to lean towards satanism and anti-christianity, however I hear a lot of pagan influences and plenty of melody in their music.

It’s not your average profane devil-worshipping Colombian Black Metal pandemonium with lots of theatrics and horrible screams to wake up the Prince of Darkness himself, no – Cancerlumia have a different approach.  And yet they stay true to the cause.

‘Spectral Forest’ is such a basher – it’s fast, paced with hammering drums and epic guitars that add a rather melodic crescendo to the music.  No abrasive sound nor  hypnotizing chords – it’s an avalanche of epic riffing at full speed with the festering and feral vocals of Astarte.  No real satan here but rather mystical and raw atmospheric Black Metal.  It’s not perfect, it still has rough edges and the production could have been better, but nonetheless the songs pack enough punch to make a lasting impression.

‘Forgotten’ is a nice first effort for Cancerlumia and hopefully we will hear more from this band in the near future.
