However, when that same soul is merged with the flame of art, be it music or even literature, then it is like a beacon for the mind to be guided to, a voyage wherein both consciousness and art are forged into one entity. Where the true magick that is conjured is the dreamscape that flows from the unification of such energies.
Melodies and words become the spell woven to forge an aural fantasy, a fantasy that fuses the senses to that of poetry churned into the most pulchritudinous sound, taking the shape of Ammanas’ ‘The Source of Primordial Wisdom’. An album that bleeds the ichor of the epic shade of Black Metal, showcasing its beauty within pain, drawing upon a similar resonance as bands such as Summoning and Caladan Brood, inturn, Ammanas becomes the architect in erecting a world for the soul to take refuge.
Though you can pluck any track and discern its shape and marvel at its seraphic charm, I believe this would do the album an injustice, for you cannot sever a piece from a sculpture and aim to appreciate it, instead it is meant to be consumed as a whole experience. So does this album exude in its resonance, for each track bleeds into each other seamlessly, forging a path for a journey in sound, from start to finish. The strings and percussive arrangements are shaped in a rather luminous way, where the playing isn’t tonally bombastic, instead it feels wild, yet calm, like the wind that unfurls a banner , rippling through the cerulean skies. The synth moments are often used as a means to highlight these transcendent moments, for depending motion of the strings or drums, the synths add depth and sometimes lightens the aura, it acts as the pulse throughout the album.
The vocals become the emotional anchor for what is felt becomes pain and anguish,though it is through this feeling of despair, a sort of catharsis is realized. Merging with the instrumental energies, the vocals in turn acts as element which connects with the soul, for it is like a raw nerve, that feels and reacts to its environment.In my opinion, having this aspect grants onto the listening experience a sonorous yet corporeal ambience.
‘The Source of Primordial Wisdom’ by Ammanas can be looked upon as the field wherein the mind runs rampant, and upon these grounds, emotion becomes the grass that the consciousness submits itself to,the melodies take form in the wind that caress the soul, and words that resonate,they are the hymns that echo forth, bringing tranquility.
