Arkaist is a quite interesting and fiery act, originating from France and active since 2023, having released one full-length album so far through Antiq Records, a French label focusing on various Black/Death Metal music and even Dark Ambient goodies.
When I first listened to their first and only album so far, ‘Aube Noire’, right from the start it immediately invoked memories of the great Ukrainian Black Metal band Lucifugum, whose work I genuinely admire. Seven songs with interesting and at times thunderous rhythms, along with Black Metal screams but also clean vocals at times, offering the right balance of diversity.
The drums sound like the pounding of 1000 hammers at once! Although the lyrics are written in their native language, I strongly believe that they sound really good, even for those who are used to listening to the English language and might feel unfamiliar with different vocal approaches.
