A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Listening to God Among Insects is like watching the result of an immense car crash. There is a sense of being compelled to listen anyway. Just like the characters in Cronenberg’s ‘Crash’, the listener may develop a curiosity to revisit ‘Zombienomicon’. There is an appeal hiding in this piece of Death Metal.

The album cover is quite striking and serves its purpose well. The production on this album is reminiscent of Mortician due to the low tuning of the guitars. While it sounds heavy, it holds true to a specific aesthetic. Just listen to the beginning of ‘The First House’. While Mortician puts more emphasis on playing extremely heavy than on tight and variated playing, God Among Insects sounds like a rhythmic Death Metal group compared to the aforementioned NY death heads.

There is nothing new or innovative to be found on ‘Zombienomicon’ and yet it holds value. The songs contain dynamics which prevent them from being one-dimensional or boring. The vocals are intense and raw. Not only does this album contain many catchy riffs, one can actually hear the bass clearly. Furthermore, drummer Tobben sounds particularly unleashed and contributes fine drum patterns to the songs. Although the quality level is kept constant throughout the album, the songs ‘They Came In Thousands’ and ’12th Dimension’ stand out.

To sum ‘Zombienomicon’ up, it is a 33-minute long auditorial experience.
