After 20 years of peace and order, the Roermond area (Netherlands) was once again shaken by the local “Horeca Hooligans”, who find nothing more soul-crushing than phrases like “we’re out of beer” or “sorry mates, it’s closing time”. Following a demo in 2023 and a single in 2024, 2025 became the year to enrich the world with the debut album ‘Lomp is Lastig’, which translates to “blunt is troublesome”.

This power trio is very clear about their goal with Lomp: blunt noise paired with humour, sometimes bordering on the childish. In terms of raw noise, think of a mix of Death Metal, Grindcore, and Thrash, where you’ll frequently hear echoes of Macabre (during the ‘Dahmer’, period), a thrashy old Vader, but also the faster Death/Thrash of the early 2000s. Short, tight songs with many tempo changes and unexpected twists, from a parody of ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’, to nursery rhymes dropped between two blastbeat sections. You will immediately see why Macabre comes to mind so often.

This type of Extreme Metal will always divide opinion: those who find it too immature and those who experience the tongue-in-cheek humour and accompanying music as a welcome change from the daily grind. That said, I can easily imagine them tearing the place apart for an audience that fits into that second group. (Ricardo)

‘Lomp is Lastig’ is the debut album by the Dutch band Lomp, set to release in 2025. The album runs for a total of 30 minutes and 30 seconds and will be available as a limited edition of 100 to 200 CDs through an independent release.

The band delivers straightforward yet well-crafted Death Metal, complementing their humorous and often vulgar lyrics. The production quality is excellent and balanced. While the songs are solid, they tend to feel interchangeable, typical for this style of party music. It’s not my cup of tea, but I can see why some people would enjoy letting loose with it. (LV)
