A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Two demos and this latest EP is the solo output of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA based Katy Scary. With her other band, Klaymore, she has been active in the Heavy Metal/Power Metal spectrum, but with her solo endeavour she’s opening all different kinds of boxes. And, judging from the outside, I am quite sure she did find Pandora’s Box as well.

The music on this EP has elements that can divided in various different styles, but while the majority of the music can best be described as Blackened Thrash Metal (she even appears wearing corpse paint on several promo pictures), it also has elements of Speed Metal, Heavy Metal and even Death Metal. Quite a diverse sort of hotchpotch, in which we are tossed back and forth from one extreme to the other. But what becomes evident without fail is Katy Scary’s musical talent, not only her skills on the guitar but also her song writing is of a very decent level. The emphasis of ‘Absolute Fucking Terror’ is evidently on the guitars, but her snarling vocals do give the music a pretty fierce character. And to that, her almost neo-classical guitar leads contrast quite strongly. All of this does give the music a slightly schizophrenic appearance and if anything, that is where Katy Scary should be focussing on, a little tweaking here and there to give the music a more coherent feel.
