One of the last places of origin of a Black Metal band is California. But none the less, L.A. is the home town of the four guys from Northwind Wolves. After their debut in 2017, “Mountains and darkness” is their second album.

Listening to the first seconds of this Symphonic Death/Black Metal immediately transports you to the grim Carpathian forests with their beasts lurking in the shadows.

Thick guitars and very aggressive drums are the perfect elements on this  journey through the realm of the hungry wolves from the north. The vile vocals give the intensity no chance to weaken and orchestral keyboards play an important role in all songs. Thereby new little melodies are perfectly able to sneak in.

Northwind Wolves bring some interesting twists and turns in their music but they never leave the borders of the Black Metal genre. Therefore I can recommend this album to everyone who likes Black Metal. It doesn’t matter which subgenre you prefer, “Mountains and Darkness” has something for everybody, even short ambient passages.
