Nomenclature Diablerie – 888 [Demo / Re-Release]

nomenclature diablerie – 888 [demo / re-release]

Info

Nuclear War Now! Productions have delved deep into Extreme Metal’s past and dug out the one and only release from Australian Thrash/Death Metal band Nomenclature Diablerie, a two track demo entitled 888. Raw and chaotic would be the two best adjectives to describe this two track demo. It suffers from a very poor mix which sees the levels fluctuate, and the coherence of the music on offer can at times feel cluttered. In terms of what Nomenclature Diablerie create, opening track ‘Lovecraft’ is a short mid paced bout of dirty sounding Death/Thrash with grime spattered vocals, simplistic guitar leads and thundering drums. Closing track ‘Premature Creation’ has far more depth to the riffs as well as a feral, ceaseless pace, leading to more groove drenched bass tones and leads. It’s certainly an improvement on the first track in terms of both production level, musicianship and song-writing. Two tracks is two short a time to truly get to grips with a bands style and sound, but as this nine minutes of material is all the band ever made then that’s tough luck. I can understand the decision to breath new life into this for the sake of nostalgia, though it doesn’t touch me on a personal level. However, I’m sure there is an audience out there for this rare slab of angry, raw Death/Thrash! (Luke Hayhurst)
