Brazilian Black Metal the Nordic way. Carpatus’ third album “Malus Ascendant” is without doubt inspired by the second wave of Scandinavian Black Metal without the early 1990s production. But besides that it has all the ingredients when it comes to pace changes, an acoustic guitar passage, a chant and influences of mid-Satyricon, Gorgoroth, mid-tempo Darkthrone (early 2000-era) and 1349. It’s not like your collection is incomplete without this one, but it is certainly enjoyable. (Ricardo)
