‘Chamber of Desolation’ is one of those albums where I got a couple songs in and I already knew what Infernal Realm are trying to do. Fast, crushing Death Metal that doesn’t hang about or even pause to slow down the tempo. And for a debut, there’s a pretty natural groove to it.
Some of the faster passages have a little Vader in them that I kept on looping. I wouldn’t say they sound identical but the same sorts of moods are evoked when those riffs start shredding open. The vocals though have a different tone entirely. Sometimes I even thought they had a Behemoth like quality to them with the commanding growl instead of the deep, muddy, gutturals.
Honestly this entire thing kept my interest. They’re moving at quite a clip for most of the album, and it could very easily become one of those where all of a sudden, three songs have passed in a blur and you haven’t even noticed. That doesn’t happen here. The song structures have enough variety in the pacing and riffs to distinguish them without Infernal Realm abandoning the blitz.
There really isn’t some elaborate reason I enjoyed this one. It’s just some really solid Death Metal. The riffs are on, the vocals work, it flows nicely and it never felt like it was dragging.
For such a debut, Infernal Realm already sounds as if they know what their game is, and ‘Chamber of Desolation’ gave me enough to find out where they go from here.
