With ‘Nightside Emanations’, Idaho’s Hexkrieg make a strong first impression. Across four tracks, sole member Nihillock creates a dark and ritualistic atmosphere, using raw production and heavy riffs to build a sound that feels genuine rather than forced.

The demo favours slower, Doom-influenced riffs instead of constant speed, giving the songs plenty of room to breathe. Repetition is used well, creating an hypnotic feel without becoming boring. The vocals are harsh and powerful, adding even more weight to the dark, occult mood.

The production is raw, but not so rough that the music gets lost. The guitars remain clear enough for the riffs to stand out, while the distant drums help create a cold and mysterious atmosphere. It captures the spirit of old-school underground Black Metal without simply copying the past.

‘Nightside Emanations’ doesn’t try to reinvent Black Metal; instead, it focuses on doing the basics really well. These seventeen minutes are full of dark atmosphere, memorable riffs and a clear vision, making this a very promising debut from Hexkrieg.
