Singapore’s Death Metal and Underground Extreme Metal scene continues to grow with Poison Void emerging as a new Death Metal force in pushing the local scene towards heavier and more refined brutality.
Poison Void makes a commanding entrance with Call of the Void, a five-track slab of evil and atmospheric Death Metal forged by the fire intensity and experience of the 3 members from other local underground bands coming together.
‘Realm of the Dead’ opens the EP with crushing riffs and an ominous atmosphere, setting the tone for the band’s descent into death and decay. ‘Revenant’ follows with a more sinister and haunting approach, driven by eerie guitar work and a sense of restless dread.
The short but devastating ‘Spectral Embrace’ delivers pure violence in condensed form, acting as a relentless burst of chaos before the EP shifts into the haunting depths of ‘To Oblivion’, arguably the record’s most atmospheric moment, where melody and darkness intertwine to create an almost ghostly presence. The title track, ‘Call of the Void’, closes the release in crushing fashion, combining the band’s strongest elements into a bleak and memorable finale.
Much of the EP’s strength lies in the band’s songwriting and execution. B’s guitar work demonstrates a strong understanding of how atmosphere and aggression can coexist, crafting memorable riffs that favour tension, mood and dynamics over constant speed.
Poison Void stands firmly on its own identity, embracing a darker and more immersive approach to songwriting. D’s bass provides a thick and menacing backbone throughout the record, adding depth and weight to every passage, while Z’s drumming drives the songs forward with precision, seamlessly shifting between savage assaults and measured rhythms that allow the music to breathe. With D’s cavernous vocals, organic production and carefully crafted sense of darkness, Call of the Void feels less like a debut and more like the work of a band that already knows exactly what it wants to achieve.
This is a strong first offering that proves Poison Void is far more than just another side project; it is a band with a distinct identity and a promising future within Singapore’s Death Metal underground. A powerful release that should resonate with devotees of OSDM and the underground alike.
