Eclipsus. A solo project from CoughinWraught (also of Serpentshrine), presenting his take on Depressive and Atmospheric Black Metal. he theme of this album really helps with that; it follows the steps of an individual’s path to suicide in the Japanese forest of Aokigahara.
So what do you get? Long, drawn-out riffs and tortured vocals that scream out sounds of pain rather than just reciting lyrics. It is clear that it follows the rules of the genre and delivers what you expect from Depressive Atmospheric Black Metal, yet I don’t hear anything that makes me think “let’s go for another round”. It doesn’t really stand out above the rest and you won’t hear anything you haven’t heard before.
