A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Italy’s Affliction Vector is a Black/Death Metal band formed in 2018 and based in Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia. They’re noted for a raw, nocompromise sound and themes centred on darkness and insanity/satanism. This musical entity is centred around the duo of SBRU & Nero Ansia.

First release was the ‘Death Comes Supreme’ EP in 2020 on Argento Records. Heralded as as a feral, uncompromising black/death assault drawing from classic roots and chaotic contemporary underground threads with references to Mayhem, Voivod, and Bolt Thrower.

Iron Bonehead Productions must have tasted the potential and signed the band – the ‘Contra Hominem’ full-length was released in June 2025.

What we get is brutal, sometimes chaotic Black/Death Metal with a harsh, cold claustrophobic edge. Cavernous vocal placement, frenetic blast passages, and murky, saturated guitar tones align with contemporary Black/Death extremity more broadly, prioritizing atmosphere and ferality over a technical flash.

I hear fragments of Deathspell Omega, Funeral Mist but also Watain… It’s very dark, violent and apocalyptic in design – cutting tremolo lines, militaristic drumming, and a punchy, forward mix that keeps the riffs in your teeth.

8 tracks and 28 minutes may be a bit short – still a lot happens on this excellent album. Just have a listen.
