Embrional are part of the huge Polish Death metal scene since 2003 and in their ranks are people who have played with bands such as Azarath, Throneum, Hate, Christ Agony, etc. so here we have some seasoned and experienced musicians. ‘Inherited Tendencies for Self-Destruction’ is their fourth full-length album and first for their label Agonia Records from Poland.

First thing that makes impression is the cover artwork, the demon with the crown of thorns, slitting his own throat really catches the attention. In terms of music what Embrional offer is a whirlwind of blasting drumming, blistering guitar riffs and the apocalyptic growls of Skullripper (guitars/vocals) who is creating this sonic massacre with the help of Armagog on bass, Chlosta on guitars and Nar-Sil behind the drums who is also the drummer of the Polish Death metal veterans Hate.

After a short intro, ‘The World Deserves Self-Destruction’ opens the gates of Hell with a storm of Morbid Angel/Angelcorpse/Immolation-inspired sonic destruction. Skullripper’s vocals sound like a mix between the higher screams of Gene Palubicki from Angelcorpse and the lower growls of Ross Dolan from Immolation. The track ends with a melodic and technical guitar lead. The direction continues with ‘Inspiration to Slay’ where also some Nile elements can be heard and again there is a remarkable guitar soloing.

Embrional know how to intertwine melody in the overall aggression like in ‘Seduced by the Lies’ which offers some impressive melodic passages. Some keyboard parts are also put in the mix like in ‘Lies of God’ and they work pretty well in combination with the melodic guitar leads. Embrional are also gaining inspiration from the Black Metal scene as it is evident from the guitar riffs in ‘The Shrine of Collapse’. Other highlights in this album are the blistering ‘Purified by Death’ and the final track after the outro ‘Obliteration Rites’ which has a remarkable mix of spiteful aggression and twisted melody.

‘Inherited Tendencies of Self-Destruction’ is an impressive album from the mighty Polish underground Metal scene. It doesn’t offer anything new but if you are into Morbid Angel and Immolation type of sound then you should check this record out.
