A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Here we have a quite interesting split release by two very competent projects which complement each other pretty well in this output.

Let’s start with Borda’s Rope side, which is comprised of three songs, and they all share a very similar structure and atmosphere. Chilling and sometimes sloppy mid paced Black Metal.

Don’t don’t let the use of the word “sloppy” deter you from checking Borda’s Rope side, since the somewhat amateurish and improvised feeling that permeates these songs give them a very authentic old school, early 90’s sort of vibe. Despite the fact that these songs are simple in their construction, they are also effective in their purpose.

If you like your Black Metal cold and raspy like a winter blizzard, Borda’s Rope side will definitely scratch that itch.

As for the Helm of Saga side, this is only their second outing since the homonymous demo from 2021.

With a fuzzier production in comparison to Borda’s Rope side, Helm of Saga presents us with a single and lengthier track that, in some moments, reminds me of bands like Vothana and Nightgaunt.

It’s an epic piece that, despite being different from the previous demo in some ways, should please any listener that likes a more triumphant tone to their Black metal. I’d give even a special commendation for the vocals, which sound sorrowful yet commanding and imponent.

Overall, this is a solid split and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who likes Raw Black Metal that doesn’t compromise it’s delivery just in favor of sounding crude.
