A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Been around since 1989, then still called Bereaved. They released two demo-tapes. After that and some line-up changes the band changed their name to Abaddon Incarnate and they released another demo, which lead to a deal with French Seasons Of Mist for their debut album in 1999.

Two years later they have released their second albm, this time on the Irish label Sentinel Records. 24 Repulsive and intense Grindcore Death Metal-type songs with one shooter lasting 3:06 minutes. ‘Nadir’ was recorded in Sweden and produced by Miesko of Nasum, and this can be heard back on the album, as the guitarsound is quite Swedish-sounding. Abaddon Incarnate also got some resemblances with Nasum (and I also thought to hear back some Terrorizer, old Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer and Inhume…). As Nasum, they do stand out of the mass Death/Grind bands by using lots of Death Metal influences (the style they started with), vary their songs very much and include some melody every now and then.

Also, after several times of playing this recording I noticed that some songs stuck to me, out of which we can make up that there is a certain catchyness to it or that the songs just are kinda memorable. I think that it’s a bit of both. The vocalist makes use of grunts in combination with a scream and this reminded me a bit of Groinchurn. The production is good, vile and filthy and brings out the worst that the songs got within.

As this might be a bit of an older release, I’d surely like to recommend this to every grinding maniac, as this is surely an album packed with destructive and furious and quite recognisable songs. Not for the pacemaker-carriers amongst us! (NB:On tour this month and in May with English Desecration through the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic)
