A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Slovenian Death Metal horde Ensanguinate have followed up a string of single releases since their 2020 inception with a debut full length album, released on CD and LP via Emanzipation Productions and entitled ‘Eldritch Anatomy’.

Ensanguinate play fast and they play hard! Theirs is an enthusiastic style with more than a passing nod to 80’s Thrash Metal influences in some of their catchier riffs, in particular Slayers early work. Yet at their core they are indeed very much a Death Metal band, one that focuses on huge riffs, a monstrous drumming style with an unquenchable thirst for violence, and in places some hypnotic guitar leads that put me in mind a little bit of Nile.

That neat little summation pretty much sums up the whole album. Ensanguinate create a style of Death Metal that flows along easily and is easy on the ear but lacks depth and for my own personal tastes isn’t dark nor brooding enough to keep my attention. Whilst ‘Eldritch Anatomy is performed extremely well and is more than listenable, it holds few surprises. (Marksson)
